For the third time, Shell Deer Park won the Industry of the Year award from the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber presented the site with the honor during today’s official awards ceremony at the Jimmy Burke Activity Center in Deer Park, Texas. Shell Deer Park won the award in 1993 and 2004 as well.

Each year, the Chamber receives nominations for the award, and those nominations then go to the Chamber’s 19-member Board of Directors for the official selection process. The Board unanimously selected Shell Deer Park as this year’s winner due to its dedication to the Chamber’s mission, its support for the community as a whole and the site’s willingness to go above and beyond for Deer Park’s residents.

“We’re truly honored to receive this award,” said Barry Klein, Shell Deer Park’s GM. “It shows that we’re living up to our Flagship expectations of being a leader in the community. Winning this award tells us that we’re definitely on the right track.”

Strengthening the community

During the selection process, the Board cited the site’s strong partnership with the Chamber through the successful Business Leaders Series and the Deer Park mobile app (that the Chamber plans to launch very soon) as clear evidence of the site’s dedication to its nearby community.

“The Shell Deer Park site plays a vital role in the growth and success of Deer Park,” said Tim Culp, the CEO of the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce. “We’ve been able to provide our residents with incredible opportunities both personally and professionally due to Shell’s long-term commitment to their well-being.”

Powering progress together

The Business Leaders Series provides Chamber members with a new and innovative professional skills development program. As a result of Shell Deer Park’s support, employees from both small and large businesses can take advantage of the series at a minimal cost. Once a month for nine months, employees attend a three hour course and learn how to develop a specific skill set.

The Deer Park mobile app will go live later this month and aims to provide users with news and emergency notifications for Deer Park, recommended places to shop, eat and drink and information about volunteer opportunities and community events.

“It’s clear that Shell Deer Park genuinely wants to make a difference and continues to build on its passion for powering progress in our community,” said Culp. “With that mindset, everyone wins.”
