Shell Drilling and Production Camp

The Shell Drilling and Production Camp provides exposure for technical candidates to the energy industry and upstream operations, and offers a “learning from experience” environment for students. Situated on 20 private acres, in the crossroads of the Gulf Coast, the facility has equipment and lab space, which emulates an onshore and offshore working environment with training on “live” systems.

What is it?

The Camp consists of a week of residential and program agenda that includes:

  • Production Operations
  • Drilling and Well Control
  • Health, Safety & Environmental
  • Visit to One Shell Square
    o Shell Exploration & Production Collaborative Virtual Equipment
    o Real-Time Operations Center
    o Production Operations Management Center

Features of the Camp include:

  • 13 classrooms with capacity ranging from 9 to 75
  • Two networked computer classrooms
  • On-site lodging (space for 40/48 students, per week)
  • On-site galley (traditional, heart-healthy menus and dietary needs accommodated)
  • Guest computers with free Internet access
  • Recreation (heated pool, fitness and exercise facilities, stocked fishing pond and more)
  • Wellness center

Camp Details

Students are responsible for the cost of round-trip transportation from their university to the New Orleans airport. All other expenses for the camp, as well as transportation from the airport to the camp, are paid for by Shell.

How to Apply

It’s easy to apply. To qualify you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work on a full-time basis in the United States. 
  • Enroll full-time as a sophomore, junior, or senior. Graduate students may also be considered. 
  • Have a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA (on 4.0 scale). 
  • Major in one of the following disciplines: geology, geophysics or physics; chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, petroleum, geological or geophysical engineering.
