Caring for Our Friends and Neighbors: Shell Polymers Monaca in the Community
Shell Polymers Monaca is deeply embedded in the fabric of Beaver County, and our employees are dedicated to contributing to the community in meaningful ways. Over the years, Shell and its partners have contributed millions of dollars and thousands of volunteer hours to our neighbors across Beaver County and surrounding areas. We prioritize initiatives that support STEM education, environmental sustainability, workforce development, and community resilience.
Here are just some of the programs we've implemented across the region:
- Collaborated with the United Way of Beaver County to start The Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) Fund, through which $70,000 in mini grants were awarded to Beaver County non-profit agencies helping ALICE residents every day
- Invested more than $1 million in the Community College of Beaver County to develop a curriculum through the Shell Center for Process Technology
- Recycled material-based asphalt used for all permanent road paving on site (five miles of road, plus parking lots)
- Partnered on development of road surface derived from hard-to-recycle plastics
- Teamed up with The Challenge Program and area high schools to motivate students to succeed in school and in their careers by building business/education collaborations
- Assisted with the Convoy of Hope to distribute food and socks to neighbors in need
- Joined Beaver County in the launch of school-based recycling programs and funding a full-time recycling expert to help residents sort material at the recycling center
- Donated almost 1,000 backpacks stuffed with school supplies to local students
