Their proposals were selected for unique approaches to solving an energy system problem. Over the next six week the teams will work with mentors from Shell’s Future Energy Lions and New Energies Research and Technologies groups to develop their ideas further and compete for one of three Accelerator spots at Make the Future California 2019.

The Challenge, developed by Shell’s New Energies Research and Technology group, asks Net Impact member participants to ideate novel business models, technologies and supply chains that promote and strengthen integrated energy systems today and in the future.

Shell New Energies Research & Technology brings together in-house expertise with that of external industrial partners, universities and institutes. This collaborative approach to innovation with partners inside and beyond the energy sector helps spark new ideas and accelerates their development and deployment.

In the first round of the competition, which concluded on December 7, 2018, participants submitted proposals with broad business ideas or a system solution in response to their choice of problem statement in the Challenge brief.

Last year’s three finalist teams won an opportunity to attend and participate in Powering Progress Together and Make the Future California 2018. This year, the finalists, chosen at the end of round two, will be flown to an Accelerator workshop at Make the Future California 2019, to develop their proposals into market-ready pitches.
