Letter from the Editor:

Many of our Shell Fleet Solutions customers utilize the popular Shell Fleet Card program. This fall, we encourage them to make use of their fleet cards to take an active role in supporting their communities through the simple act of filling up.
The Giving Pump is a specially marked purple pump at participating Shell stations where a portion of customers’ fill-ups are donated to charities benefitting local children and families at no extra cost. Now in its fourth year, this two-month campaign running through October 31 includes nearly 7,500 Shell stations across the US, supporting 552 children’s charities including children’s hospitals, schools, literacy programs, youth-based food pantries and more.
It costs fleets nothing extra to participate. Drivers simply look for the specially marked purple pump at participating Shell stations and fuel up.
This year, The Giving Pump is supporting charities across the US, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Boys & Girls Clubs, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Prader-Willi Syndrome Association USA, The Brooke Healey Foundation and more. The Giving Pumps were used 7.3 million times during the 2023 campaign.

Sales Spotlight:

Victor Price, Key Account Manager
A career working with vehicles set Price up for success when he answered the call from Shell Fleet Solutions four years ago, finding a new path into the fleet sector after years with BMW and General Electric. Based out of Tarpon Springs, Florida he now covers eight states along the East Coast, working with 18 customers of varying sizes, from 250,000 to over 1,000,000 gallons of fuel purchased a year.
The first thing that stood out to him when joining the Shell Fleet Solutions team was its commitment to customer service. Whether it’s working through the onboarding process when a fleet signs up for fleet cards such as the Shell Fleet Navigator® Card, checking in with accounts throughout the year to identify ways to save, or even helping to find efficient Shell fuel stops along routes that deliver maximum rebates.
“A lot of providers won’t service the account once they sign a customer up, but we are here from the beginning,” Price said. “We have a team that helps implement their program through Shell, so we help take a lot of the burden away from the client. That’s important because many fleets have one or two people for a fleet of hundreds of vehicles, so we try to take as much off their plate as possible.”
Another benefit that Price cites is the control and security that the Shell Fleet Card program brings, whether it’s identifying fuel spend, forecasting fuel budget or finding fuel fraud. It’s this data that can help make a difference for fleet total cost of ownership.
“That’s something that we talk about – the way our security is set up, it's a learned algorithm and it will pick up fraud,” Price said. “During implementation, we ask for VIN numbers of fleet vehicles, and one might be a Ford F-150 truck with fuel capacity of 50 gallons per fill up. If suddenly, this VIN number is doing a 75 gallon fill up – that’s a red flag, you're going to get notified.”
It’s the day-to-day work with his customers that Price enjoys the most, finding the best solutions for the unique challenges of their fleets, no matter the size or make-up.
“One thing about the fleet world: it’s still car people; I am a car guy and that's sort of who I am,” Price said. “I enjoy engaging and interacting with people. It's always my goal is to find common ground very quickly with whoever I'm talking to and deliver the solutions they need to achieve their goals.”
More News:

Commercial Carrier Journal recently wrote about a new survey that covered various fleet topics, including fleet safety. The J.J. Keller Center for Market Insights surveyed 489 commercial and other fleet managers in February, focusing on trending concerns from 2021 to 2024. At the top of the list was driver knowledge and skills (58%), followed closely by managing company expenses (57%), overall safety (51%), and further down, fleet technology (35%).

Transport Topics shared the results of the Shell Fleet Solutions survey conducted with the National Association of Fleet Administrators. The “Shell Fleet Solutions 2024 Fleet Trends Survey Results: Surprising Takeaways on How Fleet Stakeholders Spend Time and Energy” survey found 89% of respondents viewed cost of ownership as the primary concern. That was followed by safety at 86% and efficiency management at 82%.
“Overall, the top results are what we would expect based on conversations we have with our customers and the current landscape of the fleet industry,” said Jim Perkins, director of Shell Fleet Solutions U.S. “Reducing overall costs, finding ways to be more efficient and fleet safety all scored high in the survey. These are the priorities and concerns that affect fleets daily.”

A key fleet management tenet includes proactivity – often, the lifeline between partnerships with customers and lenders. And with the global digital signature market size projected to reach $34.8B by 2028, contractual obligations hold serious consequences if not handled with care. However, media coverage on centralized data management continues to emerge. With risk management as an ever-present necessity, real-time and predictive data are friends of fleets, helping to protect operators and businesses alike from operational setbacks.
