Fleet Spotlight: Shell Starship 3.0 Hits the INDYCAR Racetrack
What the Truck?!? podcast interview with Shell’s Scott Burian
Shell Starship 3.0 served as the official transport vehicle of the INDYCAR Pennzoil Tech Inspection Trailer during the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES, beginning with the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix in June. This is a first for a natural gas Class 8 truck in a national racing series.
Why Starship 3.0 Matters:
- Equipped with a Cummins X15N™ natural gas engine, it’s the first natural gas–powered Class 8 truck in a national motorsports fleet in North America
- Boasts advanced aerodynamic design, including a lightweight carbon‑fiber body and mirror‑replacing camera system, to cut drag and boost efficiency
- Demonstrated freight‑ton efficiency up to 2.54× better per ton‑mile and 3.23× better per ton‑mile per kg of CO₂e compared to the U.S. Class 8 diesel average
- Showcases performance using Shell Rotella low‑viscosity engine oils and other high-grade lubricants designed for alternative fuel vehicles
