Celebrating 50 Years: Honoring Michael Rodriguez and Rick Escobedo
Reaching the milestone of 50 years with a company is an amazing achievement. Today, we celebrate the incredible careers of two valued employees, Michael Rodriguez and Rick Escobedo, who have been with Shell since 1975. Their stories offer a glimpse into their time with the company while highlighting their contributions.
Michael Rodriguez

Michael Rodriguez began his journey with Shell in February of 1975, joining the Bull Gang, where he handled various duties, including driving trucks and general labor. Over the years, he moved into operations before finding his true calling in maintenance, where he has spent most of his career.
Michael has enjoyed a fulfilling personal life alongside his career, being happily married with three children and five grandchildren. When he's not at work, he loves coaching his grandkids’ team and watching basketball, as well as fishing.
Robert Wolf, Michael’s manager, had this to say about this achievement: “Mike has been dedicated, hardworking, and passionate about his job for 50 years. His commitment to his work has always made him a pleasure to work with. Thank you Mike for all you have done throughout your time here at Shell.”
Rick Escobedo

Rick Escobedo started his career in March of 1975, when he was paired with a craftsman in the Bull Gang. Initially, he aimed to work for operations, but personal circumstances led him to the maintenance team. Over the years, he played an important role in inventory management, shipment, and receiving.
Rick is also a family man, married with three children. He enjoys traveling and enjoys time spent with his family, especially around the dinner table.
Danny Phu, Rick’s manager, had a few words in honor of Rick: “Congratulations, Rick, on reaching the incredible milestone of 50 years with Shell! Your unwavering dedication, hard work, and contributions have left a lasting impact on the company and everyone you've worked with. Here's to honoring your remarkable journey and celebrating this well-deserved achievement!”
A Look Back: Q&A with Michael and Rick
We sat down with Michael and Rick to ask them a few questions about what their time at Shell has looked like and what advice they can offer.
What inspired you to join the company 50 years ago, and what made you stay?
Michael: "I was between jobs and applied just for fun. They called me, and that’s how it all started.”
Rick: "A friend of mine got a job as an operator, and I thought working in a plant might be a good idea. The Texas Employment Commission sent me to Shell, and after a few years of making double what I was earning before, I decided to stay. Originally, I thought I’d be here for five years, but now it's been 50!"
What advice would you give to new employees?
Michael: "Do your job, be accountable, and don’t resist change."
Rick: "Safety first. Even if a rule doesn’t make sense to you, always follow it, because there is a reason it’s there."
What accomplishment in your career are you most proud of?
Michael: "Having a good job and a great journey through life—Shell has been good to me."
Rick: "Raising three kids while working here."
What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned?
Michael: "Save your money for the future."
Rick: "I think we both can agree on that."
If you could go back to your first day, what advice would you give yourself?
Rick: "Be more careful, especially when it comes to safety. Always ask more questions."
If you had to sum up your time at the company in a few words, what would they be?
Michael: "It’s been a good ride."
Rick: "Safety is first. This is a hazardous environment, and it’s ok to have a good time at work, but safety always comes first.
Any final advice?
Michael: "Follow the rules and look out for yourself and others."
Rick: "Awareness is key. Housekeeping is another big safety factor—there’s always more to be done."
