Shell Deer Park Sponsors Young Leaders
Jan 31, 2017
At Shell, we believe our people are the foundation for our success and we are committed to developing leadership attributes in all of our employees. As an extension of this value, we sponsor students to attend the Louisiana Youth Seminar (LYS), a week-long summer leadership camp for high school students from around the country that takes place every year at Louisiana State University. In 2016, Shell sponsored roughly 50 students to LYS. For 2017, Shell Deer Park is looking to sponsor four local students. Read below to learn how to apply.
The video below features the founder of LYS in addition to some students who had the incredible opportunity to attend LYS by receiving sponsorships from several Shell sites – including Shell’s refinery and chemical plant in Deer Park, Texas. Throughout their week at LYS, students gained leadership and communication skills – all while empowering them to dream big.

About LYS
LYS is a weeklong leadership seminar that takes place on the campus of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. During LYS, students go through a series of leadership skill building exercises and put their newly developed skills to practice in a group setting to discover that leadership is not merely a matter of position or authority, but a matter of action. Students are then encouraged to make a difference and to apply their knowledge and experience in their schools and communities. For more information, visit www.louisianayouthseminar.org.
