A catalyst for my growth
- Danni, Senior Engineer, Process Evaluations“I bridge the gap between scientists and decision makers. And I love it!”

My first employer
I grew up in Beijing, China and came to the US to pursue my Chemical Engineering degree. I joined Shell first as an intern and later, after my PhD, as a Recent Graduate.
Working for Shell was my first professional job and I fondly remember friendly colleagues who helped me quickly adapt to the corporate world. For my first role, I was in the catalyst research and development (R&D) team, working on technical projects, but I also had the opportunity to interact with business teams, as well. I supported the commercialization of an R&D product and followed its complete value chain from product development and scale-up, to sales and customer service. This experience gave me a fresh perspective of my field of study and an appreciation for the commercial aspects of the business. Thanks to Shell, I was able to pursue a business degree while working and continue towards my long-term goal of bridging the gap between technology and commercialization.
How I contribute to the energy transition
My current role is in process evaluation, which marries engineering and economic analysis. Specifically, before Shell decides on a project, we need to know whether its a strategic fit and its technical feasibility, as well as its economic value. My colleagues and I gather information, analyze it, and report back to the decision makers. I’ve had the opportunity to support several renewable energy projects. It gives me great pride to contribute to Shell’s Energy Transition ambition.
A place where I continue to grow and be at my best
At the Shell Technology Center in Houston where I’m based, Employee Resource Groups (ERG) are a very vibrant community. I personally have served in Women Adding Value Everywhere (WAVE) in various roles such as Chapter President, championing women in the industry. To me it is a great way to give back to the community and help Shell continue to be a leader in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I).
I love the diversity here both professionally and from a culture perspective. For me, Shell is one of the most progressive and diverse companies to work for, and it has been a catalyst for my growth. I'm proud to tell people that I work for Shell.
