  • Community Air Monitoring - Since 2003, with input from residents, Shell Norco has participated in a state-of-the-art community-based air monitoring system, approved by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. Air samples are taken at regular intervals from strategically placed air monitors in the Norco community, analyzed, and compared with government air standards and measured levels with similar data from elsewhere in Louisiana and other states.
  • Benzene Fenceline Monitoring Program - Shell Norco conducts biweekly passive sampling along the facility property boundary for the target analyte of benzene. Visit this page to learn more.
  • Responsible Care Initiative – Shell Norco is an active participant in the American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care Initiative, designed to improve the industry’s health, safety and environmental performance and public awareness of industry efforts.
  • Emergency Response – The Shell Norco Emergency Response Team works closely with the Norco Volunteer Fire Department to keep the community and employees safe. The Shell Emergency Response Team meets weekly with the Norco Fire Department to strengthen proficiencies and enhance collaboration. Additionally, Shell Norco recently donated the funds for the Volunteer Fire Department to purchase a new fire truck.
  • Site Security – Shell Norco has responded to the need for heightened security with a variety of measures and programs designed to protect employees, the surrounding community and site assets. Security at Shell Norco meets the United States Department of Homeland Security guidelines and regulations for manufacturing facilities.
