Shell Spirax: Improving tractor availability
Shell Spirax S4 TXM helped a palm oil plantation extend their tractor availability by reducing maintenance downtime.
Challenge
Happy Valley Plantation operates six New Holland 6610 tractors in the wet, dusty environment of a palm oil plantation covering a large area. The need to change the universal tractor transmission oil after only 500 hours, every two months, was limiting tractor availability.
Solution
The Shell distributor arranged a trial of Shell Spirax S4 TXM, a premium universal tractor transmission oil with excellent antioxidant performance for longer oil life. The Shell LubeAnalyst oil condition monitoring service was used to determine the optimum oil life for the application and operating conditions.
Impact
The Shell LubeAnalyst service demonstrated that Shell Spirax S4 TXM could be used for 1,300 hours: 2.6 times longer than the previous universal tractor transmission oil. This extended oil life reduced maintenance downtime and thus increased tractor availability.
