One of Jason’s passions is restoring vintage cars and trucks, giving new life to timeless treasures. We share that sensibility, and we’re applying it to reclaiming and restoring the site of our plant in Monaca. My name is Jason Eckhart. I grew up here in Beaver County, Pennsylvania right near the Shell Polymers construction site. And I work for Shell Polymers.

We share that sensibility, and we’re applying it to reclaiming and restoring the site of our new plant in Monaca. With diligent workers and leaders like Jason setting an example, we’re confident that we can make a positive contribution in this community.
Local sustainability
Shell Polymers shares Jason’s commitment to restoration and sustainability. The new facility in Monaca is being built on the site of a former zinc factory that we’ve reclaimed according to strict environmental standards established by the state of Pennsylvania. Six acres of wetlands and over three miles of stream have been restored or enhanced, and we’ve pledged to replace two trees along the river for every one removed during construction. We intend to nurture a healthy riverfront that generations of Pennsylvanians can be proud of.
Ohio River stewardship
The Monaca plant will draw 20 million gallons of water from the Ohio River for cooling and regulating process equipment, so we’ve devoted considerable effort to mitigate any potential impact this may have on the river. An extensive water recycling and treatment system has been designed to remove impurities and maintain—if not improve—the quality of the water returned to the river. We also organize volunteers in the Ohio River Sweep every June, removing waste from the river and building awareness in the community.
Environmental responsibility
Our commitment to the environment doesn’t stop at the river. We work here in Pennsylvania—but we live here, too. We have a personal stake in the quality of the air, water, and land around us, which is why we closely monitor our emissions and coordinate with local and state authorities. Shell Polymers recently awarded a $225,000 grant to the Beaver County Department of Waste Management to improve recycling efforts and jumpstart recycling programs in local schools, building awareness and responsibility in the next generation.
