Shell and Tri-State Bird Rescue - A 22 Year Partnership

Shell’s 22–year partnership and continued support of Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research has helped save thousands of birds’ lives, like this bald eagle, every year. In the pictures above , members of Tri-State, in Newark, DE, evaluate a bald eagle in need that was brought to their Wild Bird Clinic in August 2016. Shell is committed to protecting the environment and uses a range of approaches, such as working with organizations like Tri-State, to help preserve, protect, and restore the communities near our operations.

Tri-State is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that specializes in the rehabilitation of injured, orphaned, and oiled native wild birds.

Their extensive research and experience has made them one of the top oiled wildlife responders in the U.S. and one of Shell’s preferred partners for wildlife emergency response efforts. Tri- State’s Oiled Wildlife Response team is on call 24 hours a day and 365 days a year to help companies such as Shell in case of an incident.

“Shell has enjoyed a long standing relationship with Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research” said Billy Powell, Manager of Shell Americas Emergency Management. “As a valued response partner, their efforts have helped us prepare for, and mitigate, the impact to wildlife associated with incidents. Tri-State routinely participates in Shell’s emergency response exercises, which help demonstrate Shell’s abilities to protect, conserve, and rehabilitate affected wildlife in the Americas. During an actual incident response in 2012, Tri-State was able to mobilize quickly and effectively to help Shell respond to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.”

Shell engages with a variety of strategic partnerships to broaden our knowledge and capabilities in areas such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and the environment. To learn more about how we partner with NGOs and agencies in the U.S., visit our Social Investment page.
