What is gunk?

Gunk is another name for carbon deposits that can build up on intake valves and fuel injectors, which can make your engine work less efficiently. What is Corrosion?

Corrosion is caused by moisture and other contaminants that can make their way into a vehicle’s fuel tank. It can impact the fuel pump, fuel lines and fuel injectors. Hi, I’m Piotr – a Shell fuels scientist, and I’m here to give you a peak into how our new Dual Fuel Truck gets created to show the benefits of Shell V-Power NiTRO+ Premium Gasoline. This truck is undergoing a serious transformation – both inside and out. 

We’ve spent hundreds of hours modifying the engine and fuel system to run on two different fuels simultaneously.

The fuel delivery to this V-6 engine is split down the middle so that three cylinders run on a low-quality premium gasoline and three are powered by Shell V-Power Nitro+. That means we’ve had to install twice the number of pumps, fuel tanks, and controls to make this happen!

This allows us to look at the gunk build-up side-by-side and under identical conditions to compare the low quality premium fuel with the Shell V-Power Nitro+ – and honestly, there’s no comparison.

This truck, which is the fourth generation of our Dual Fuel Vehicle and has a pretty sophisticated engine in it already, is also being outfitted with some accessories to really set it apart.

From the roof rack, to the additional fuel tanks in the bed, down to the bumpers and wheels, it’s sure to catch your eye when it’s done.

But the most impressive thing to me is what’s happening under the hood. Just take a look at these intake valves – the difference in gunk build- up is night and day, even after only 4,000 miles! Deposits like these can make your engine run less efficiently.

So we’re bringing this truck all over the country to show consumers that not all premium fuels are the same, and to demonstrate how Shell V-Power NiTRO+ provides unsurpassed protection against gunk.
