
Responding to Communities Across the US
Shell has been and will continue to contribute to COVID 19 relief efforts across the country and especially in communities closest to its employees and operations. To date, Shell in the US has contributed more than $2 million in cash contributions/employee match programs, additional assistance to food banks, support for mental health service, front-line worker assistance and in-kind donations of personal protective equipment (PPE), medical supplies, meals, and fuel for COVID-19 related efforts.
For many of our families, the end of May is also the end of a school year like no other.
Over the last couple of months, many of you have kept it all going and double-hatted in ways you’ve probably never imagined. Well done to the students and thank you for the resiliency and care that you have shown during this extraordinary time.

Shell has deployed free, accredited online lesson plans and activities to support parents homeschooling children via Shell.us/energizeyourfuture.

Making Strides for Students and Teachers
Shell Deer Park is supporting Deer Park ISD’s annual Fun Run as a virtual this year to help provide PE credit for students as well as helping provide grants for teachers affected by COVID-19.

Giving Tech to Help Students Graduate
Shell Technology Center in Houston donated 240 laptops to Alief Independent School District to help launch an online learning program that will provide high school seniors the opportunity to complete their studies and graduate this spring.

Helping Serve Students in a Virtual Environment
Shell Technology Center Houston funded the development on online curriculum and a laptop loaner program to serve 660 Alief High School seniors on track to graduate.

Supporting Those Combatting the Pandemic
In support of those combatting the pandemic in the US, Shell Chemicals donated 132,000 gallons of isopropyl alcohol for use in the manufacture of disinfectant wipes for surgical and medical applications, and in the preparation of COVID-19 tests and vaccine research. The wipes will be distributed to hospitals through the US.

Producing Hand Sanitizer to Support Safe Response
Hand sanitizer is one of the most requested personal protection equipment items by responders. Shell has produced and donated 1600 gallons of liquid hand sanitizer to 22 Offices of Emergency Management and medical facilities across the US to help support COVID-19 response efforts in the communities where we live and work.

Providing Mental Health Support When It’s Needed Most
Shell is working with Mental Health America to provide a range of resources and information to aid individuals and communities to increase resiliency and reduce impacts of mental health stress and concerns related to COVID-19 across the US in the communities where we operate.

Mental Health Key To Community Resiliency
Shell is providing support to the Family & Youth Counseling Agency Inc to help meet the increasing need for mental health services for individuals, children, and families in our community, with an emphasis on services for front-line health care and displaced workers and their families, dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic in Southwest Louisiana.

Working to Help Ends Meet
Shell Deep Water is working with United Way of Southeast Louisiana, a key organization aiding in direct response to COVID-19, to provide support for ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households. These families work hard - often multiple jobs - but still struggle to afford even their most basic needs, including housing, food, transportation, childcare, and health care.

Funding Safe Response Training in Skagit County
Widespread public health concerns caused by COVID-19 are posing significant challenges as the Red Cross continues to deliver their lifesaving mission. Puget Sound Refinery is funding the local Northwest WA Chapter of the American Red Cross in support of their COVID-19 response efforts along with supporting the Island Hospital Foundation to fund emergency room staff cross-training for nurses at Island Hospital in Anacortes. This cross-training program will help enhance the preparedness and capacity of the hospital to support future increased demand for emergency room services.

Protecting Our Volunteer Fire Fighters
St. Charles Parish Fire Department’s medical responders are better protected these days thanks to Norco. With the efforts of the site's Health & Safety, Contracting & Procurement and the Warehouse teams to locate on-site stock, 1125 PPE suits were donated to the nine St. Charles Parish Volunteer Fire Departments this week. According to St. Charles Parish Firefighter Association President Armond Bourque the PPE equipment will help protect volunteers from COVID-19 exposure with the proper protection recommended by the CDC. “We greatly appreciate the donation from Shell to help and protect fire services during this time,” he says. “Protective gear is limited with priority going to hot spots, such as Orleans Parish. As back up for St. Charles Hospital, it is especially important that we protect our responders. Thank you, Shell.”

Shell and National Guard to the Rescue
Shell donated 10,000 high-demand KN-95 face masks for donation to healthcare workers throughout south Louisiana to support the communities of our Manufacturing, Deep Water and Pipeline assets. Working in cooperation with the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOSHEP), the KN-95 masks will be distributed by the Louisiana National Guard according to a priority needs assessment.

Helping Outfit New Orleans’ Finest for Response
Shell Deep Water is providing support to the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation for increased and improved COVID-19 mitigation supplies for the New Orleans Police Department thereby reducing the number of officers who are quarantined with COVID-19 symptoms or positive test results and increasing public safety.

Norco Supports Area Students Craft Face Shields for Healthcare Workers
Shell Norco provided funding to Destrehan High School Wildcat Robotics Team to purchase the necessary supplies to produce an estimated 5,000 full-face shields and up to 3,000 medical mask ear-savers. Completed shields have been delivered to St. Charles Parish EMS, Access Health and Tulane Medical Center, and Ochsner Kenner. Acadian Ambulance, Baton Rouge General Hospital, and New Orleans EMS are also on the delivery schedule. Requests have come from information the students posted on Facebook, word of mouth, and affiliation with 3D Printed PPE Greater Baton Rouge and GNO Inc.

Care Packages for the Community
Shell Polymers and Beaver County Chamber of Commerce are providing Care Packages to income-restricted households in the Beaver County, Pennsylvania area. We are supporting an entire complex in Beaver Falls with the ambition to expand our efforts to more households in the surrounding regions. Many of the tenants in these income-restricted homes have been laid off and are struggling to make ends meet. Shell was able to use the Chamber’s mailing list of 1,500 businesses to ask about donating meals, coupons or supplies for these baskets. Shell is supplementing the donations with a cash contribution to help either purchase some of the grocery store gift cards or to buy some of the supplies not donated by merchants.

A One Team Approach to Community Care
The Falcon Pipeline Project donated and safely delivered masks for Gateway Rehabilitation in Center Township, Pennsylvania. The facility now has enough masks for their patients.

Bringing Community Care Home
Shell Polymers joined forces with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh to purchase much needed supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer, liquid soap and other essential hygienic products to be given away to some of southwestern Pennsylvania’s most economically distressed communities. Supplies were handed out via a “receive and go” assembly line of cars with Urban League volunteers safely and effectively distributing the items to those in need.

Helping Bridge the Gap
Café Reconcile interrupts cycles of poverty and helps reduce neighborhood violence by providing young people with productive opportunities in the hospitality industry and key supports at a critical time in their development. However, because of COVID-19, the industry is in extreme crisis with no work to be had in the industry in which their career pathway was constructed. Shell Deep Water is providing needed support to bridge the gap created by the suspension of restaurant activities.

Firing Up the Kitchen in New Orleans
Shell Deep Water is partnering with Second Harvest to provide 1,000 prepared meals daily to seniors throughout New Orleans, 250+ to Calcasieu, more than 1,200 daily grab-and-go meals for children at 11 New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) recreation sites in New Orleans and providing assistance to service industry workers most impacted by the restaurant closures and event cancellations.

Providing a Helping Hand to Feed Children
The Shell Polymers Community Care Team is helping support youth in Pennsylvania through the YMCA of Beaver County. The Y is filling the service normally provided by the school lunch programs that feed economically depressed children through their free lunch program. With the school closures as a result of COVID-19, thousands of children in the Beaver County area are left without a reliable food source. Shell presented the check to help battle food insecurity for some of the county’s most vulnerable residents. The funds will supply meals for the children in the program for a month.

Taking Emergency Preparedness from the Kitchen to Community
In Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, Shell Robert Training and Conference Center is redeploying Gulf of Mexico resources to prepare nearly 3,000 meals delivered to first responders, hospital workers, and essential workers.

Lending a Hand to Neighbors in Need
Shell Puget Sound Refinery is helping to fund Helping Hands Food Bank Sedro-Woolley to set up a temporary food bank distribution model that will provide 1,000 boxes for families each week during the month of May along with 1,350 C.H.O.W. ("Cutting Hunger on Weekends") bags to feed children.

Getting Food to Those Who Need It Most
Residents of the Permian Basin have been hit with a double economic crisis stemming not only from COVID-19, but also from low oil prices, affecting thousands of oilfield jobs in the area. The West Texas Food Bank, which serves 19 counties in an area approximately the size of the state of Maine, has seen a 40% increase in demand during the past two months. Shell’s donation of $80,000 plus Shell fuel cards to the West Texas Food Bank will help ensure food is distributed to those in a region of the country that has significant need.

Doing More Together
Shell Deer Park is working with Precinct2gether, Inc. to expand food distribution to the neediest residents with 1600 sack lunches and hot lunches through drive-thru lunch giveaways in our highest need areas, including the East Harris County Activity Center in Pasadena, Texas.

Shell Norco, Geismar and Convent providing Health Care Worker Lunches
Turns out there IS such a thing as a Free Lunch, if you’re a health care worker at Ochsner St. Charles Hospital, St. James Parish Hospital, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Louisiana. Shell Norco, Geismar and Convent have been showing their appreciation by providing more than 1500 lunches to health care workers AND supporting local businesses with more than $10,000 in catering orders. Restaurants cooking up delicious lunches for the health workers including Seafood Pot, Creole House, Catering Cajun, Spuddy’s Cajun Foods, Tee Wayne’s Catering, 360 Catering, Grumpy’s Family Restaurant, Southern Latte Café, Honeydoux Café & Bakery and River Road Market and Deli.

Shell Helps Fuel Hope across Southwest Louisiana Parishes
Shell is working with the Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana to provide immediate food relief to Southwest Louisiana residents who are struggling with unemployment or reduction of income due to COVID-19. Shell funding will provide an increase in food distribution by 25% to nine food banks currently operating during this crisis. In addition, Shell will provide direct economic relief to Workforce Training scholarship recipients who are experiencing financial hardships as a result of this unprecedented pandemic.

Shell Polymers Answers Salvation Army Call
In southwestern Pennsylvania’s Aliquippa Township and Beaver County, need has quadrupled demand for their meal programs. Shell Polymers is answering the call for support to fund Aliquippa's 750 meals-a-day program for one month and provide 5,100 lunches to those served by the Beaver Falls Salvation Army.
