Hey, Terence. Good to see you. 

Hey. Good to see you too. 

My name is Terence Gettings. I'm from Rochester, Pennsylvania, and I lived in Beaver County my whole life.

While I was a student at CCBC, I saw a presentation about their new process technology program. And from that moment, I figured out what I wanted to do as a career path. 

After I graduated, I started

After the steel industry declined, so did the area surrounding it. So I think this is going to be like a fresh start,

but this gives people a reason to actually stay in this area. Most of my friends I actually grew up with, neighbors, they all work on-site. Building something, if they're flaggers, they're carpenters, they're all doing something on-site.

Terence was born and raised in Western Pennsylvania, and his enthusiasm for learning led him to an associate degree in process technology from the Community College of Beaver County (CCBC). Now he’s excited to begin his new career as a production operator for Shell Polymers, close to his family in the community he’s loved all his life. 

STEM education programs 

Shell Polymers is committed to helping future generations of Pennsylvania students like Terence Gettings acquire the knowledge and skills they need for successful, rewarding careers in science and industry. Shell contributes to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in area schools, and our engineers make regular presentations in local high schools to highlight career opportunities in the sciences. We recently made a million-dollar donation to the Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) to expand their process technology program. 

Powering Pittsburgh 

Shell Polymers and the Pittsburgh Steelers recently hosted “Powering Pittsburgh,” an educational event designed to encourage STEM programs in schools across Western Pennsylvania. More than 70 students from 18 schools in Beaver, Allegheny, and Washington counties came to the Steelers’ home stadium to participate in the science project. Four teams won $1,500 donations from Shell Polymers for STEM education—and tickets to a Steelers-Chargers game.

The Shell Polymers facility was designed with a state-of-the-art power plant, engineered to meet or exceed the stringent emission control and monitoring requirements mandated by the state. Cutting-edge technology including floating roof tanks, closed vent systems, and continuous monitoring help contain emissions and minimize our environmental impact.
