With the opening of its new polyethylene plant in Monaca, USA, right around the corner, Shell Polymers has been hiring a team of industry experts, aka Polymer Pioneers and Polymer Pros, who have a proven track record in polyethylene. In this “2x4”, Distribution and Export Manager Ana Buss reveals two personal facts and the four words that she believes best describe Shell Polymers.
What are your daily duties as a distribution and export manager?
My day focuses on providing the best experience for my customers and being an ambassador for Shell Polymers to the industry as we prepare to enter the market.
Everyday I work closely with our Customer Center, Supply & Logistics teams to ensure that the needs of our customers are met as well as keep up to date on the latest sustainability initiatives for polyolefins from both Shell and other industry participants.
How do you strive to create the unrivaled customer experience within your role at Shell Polymers?
As you know, Shell Polymers intends to disrupt the polyethylene sector by putting the needs of our customers at the center of everything we do. The distribution and export channel for which I’m responsible is an integral part of this vision because it will enable us to be a strategic participant for customers both large and small across the market.
What sets Shell Polymers apart from other suppliers?
We’re daring to build a world-scale facility to enter a market alongside long-established competitors, and we’ll differentiate ourselves by being highly customer focused and building strategic long-term relationships.
What excites me most is how we intend to serve the industry better. For example, as well as a state-of-the-art facility that is close to 70% of the polyethylene converters in the USA, we intend to make ordering and logistics easier for customers and to set new standards for supply chain reliability.

Could you tell us about two of your passions outside work?
Do I have to limit it to two!? I love to read sci-fi novels, attend baseball games, go boating and watch softball. I also enjoy taking my German shepherd for long walks and spending time on the beach.
In my gap year from college, I was able to travel and backpack through Mexico, Costa Rica and Guatemala. I feel that the experiences from travelling alone in a foreign country help to prepare young people for challenges as they build their careers and lives.
