Logistics Manager

As the construction of its new polyethylene plant in Monaca, USA, continues, Shell Polymers has been hiring a team of polymer experts, aka Polymer Pioneers and Polymer Pros, with proven track records. In this article, Logistics Manager Ryan Bickley discusses the importance of his role, how his military experience will bring valuable skills to the team, and the top-four ways he believes Shell Polymers’ logistics will unlock customer value.

A Day in the Life of a Logistics Manager

There is no doubt that Ryan’s daily activities will change once the polyethylene plant becomes operational. What is unlikely to change, however, is his extreme customer focus.

“Currently, all my attention is on establishing an agile, networked supply chain that will be able to deliver products reliably to customers,” he says. “But, once we start up, the emphasis will be on ensuring that we get every shipment to our customers when we say we will.”

As an armor officer in the US Army, he was always acutely aware that integrated and transparent logistics are necessary for a successful mission and he says the same principle applies here – “Shell Polymers’ logistics are critical to keeping our customers’ businesses up and running.”

An Unrivaled Customer Experience

In the same way that Shell Polymers intends to Break the Mold for customers by building a new kind of customer experience, Ryan is also determined to put customers’ needs first. “Every resin-filled hopper car or bulk truck will be critical to a customer’s business,” he says. “That’s why it’s so important for us to provide transparency and to be proactive in keeping plastic converters updated about the status of their shipments.”

Ryan adds that the resin he is responsible for shipping may just improve peoples’ lives, too. “Our customers will produce items critical for our daily life. For example, our product will be used to create many of the items used by frontline healthcare workers. Our customers rely on our logistics infrastructure to provide society with the products they need and use every day.”

“I’ve had the privilege of working alongside a team of professional logisticians who have two key qualities: extensive rail and trucking experience and an extreme customer focus. That combination will guarantee our customers’ interests are priority number one!”
