A US manufacturer was running 18 TUO units at its Tuscaloosa plant. It wanted to improve equipment reliability and extend spindle bearing life to bring down maintenance and operating costs.
The Shell Lubricants team provided the Shell LubeSurvey service to assess current performance. Based on comparisons with the existing product, Shell Gadus S3 V1000A 2 was recommended for its robust extreme pressure and anti-wear additive package.
The new product has delivered noticeable improvements in the viscosity ratio, which should equate to longer bearing life. This translates into reduced maintenance downtime and an increase in productivity.
The benefits associated with longer lubricant and component life have delivered estimated annual savings of US $405,000.
