Shell Rotella ELC Antifreeze / Coolant Offers Extended Life Operation
Shell Rotella ELC Nitrite Free Antifreeze / Coolant is using one of the most proven extended life coolant (ELC) technologies and is specifically formulated to meet more severe operational conditions of modern, hotter-running and aluminum-rich cooling systems.
Shell Rotella® ELC Nitrite Free (Rotella® ELC NF) is using one of the most proven extended life coolant (ELC) technologies and is specifically formulated to meet more severe operational conditions of modern, hotter-running and aluminum-rich cooling systems. Rotella® ELC NF has been approved by major OEMs to use in many modern on- and off-highway engines and chosen by car, truck and equipment manufactures for factory fill. It is also a very popular choice by end customers for service fill application.
Shell Rotella® ELC NF offers an extended life operation up to 1,200,000 miles in Class 8 over the road operation*. Please be advised that testing existing coolant is recommended to confirm product integrity (contamination with other coolant chemistry). The following list is recommended practice to ensure the coolant would provide the optimal performance up to 1,200,000 miles.
*Always follow OEM coolant drain intervals.
Testing schedule:
Test 1: Use Shell approved test strips, Shell Rotella ELC Test Strips (https://www.acustrip.com/cgi-bin/proddesc.cgi?s=480507), at 600,000 miles. A positive result** indicates the coolant is suitable for continued use. A negative result indicates that the coolant is not suitable for use due to possible presence of non-Rotella ELC coolant technology. Please follow the option 1 or 2 to return the coolant back to its acceptable additive level.
Test 2: Use Rotella ELC Test Strips at 800,000 miles. A positive result indicates the coolant is suitable for continued use. A negative result indicates that the coolant is not suitable for use due to possible presence of non-Rotella ELC coolant technology. Please follow the option 1 or 2 to return the coolant back to its acceptable additive level.
Test 3: Use Rotella ELC Test Strips at 1,000,000 miles. A positive result indicates the coolant is suitable for continued use. A negative result indicates that the coolant is not suitable for use due to possible presence of non-Rotella ELC coolant technology. Please follow the option 1 or 2 to return the coolant back to its acceptable additive level.
**Positive result indicates that the coolant contains Rotella ELC additive technology above 80%, which is effective for engine/cooling system protection.
Option 1. Using Shell Rotella® ELC Correction Fluid
Add Shell Rotella® ELC Correction Fluid (URL) to the existing Shell Rotella ELC NF coolant after the negative result to raise the Rotella ELC additive to an acceptable level of above 80%.
Option 2. Drain and refill
Drain and refill with fresh Shell Rotella® ELC NF Pre-diluted 50/50 coolant. Re-test the coolant by using Shell Rotella ELC Test Strips to ensure that the coolant now meets acceptable Rotella ELC additive level of above 80%.
