So, 28 years ago, a much younger version of myself. Mars is a pioneering platform. It was truly a groundbreaking piece of engineering. It changed what was possible in deep water.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIt's been a long journey, one billion barrels of production. It's an incredible milestone.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003E[Text displays]\u003Cbr\u003E\r\nMars is a US resource located more than 130 miles south of New Orleans and sits in 3,000 feet of water.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EBill:\u003Cbr\u003E\r\nWhen Mars first started out here, as far as you could see, there was nothing around us. It opened the door to even deeper exploration. Mars turned what was once an unthinkable frontier into a new realm of possibility.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESo this is our control room. This is basically the operation center of the platform.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn 1989, when the reservoir below us was first discovered, it turned out to be one of the largest US oil finds in decades.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe technical boundaries we pushed helped pave the way for the entire deep water industry.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EBill:\u003Cbr\u003E\r\nNow we have Olympus, Vito, and Ursa. We've created an entire community of production platforms. To know that Mars helped grow that is an incredible sense of pride.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003E[Text displays]\u003Cbr\u003E\r\nShell is the largest producing leaseholder in the Gulf, with ten platforms that never sleep.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EBill:\u003Cbr\u003E\r\nMars operates 24/7, 365 days a year. On average, around 150 crew members are based out here. The people make the place. We all work together as one big team.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWe call ourselves Martians. Once a Martian, always a Martian. It took over a million man hours to rebuild.
