Shell Puget Sound Refinery (PSR) – Engineer profile
Rice University, Houston TX (PhD), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy NY (MS)
What inspired you to become an engineer?
I had a strong interest in math and science. I was drawn to engineering which brings together the application of math and science with creativity. I chose Materials Science and Engineering due to the interdisciplinary nature of the field. It has given me a wide range of experiences - developing antimicrobial membranes for my doctoral research to working on semiconductor manufacturing and coating research in my professional career.
What do you enjoy most about working at PSR?
The opportunity to work on a broad range of challenges with very talented and dedicated colleagues.
What advice to would you share with kids considering an engineering career?
It can be an exciting and rewarding career and I would strongly encourage kids to pursue engineering. I would advise kids to be ready to put in lots of hard work – at times it can feel overwhelming but a strong foundation will set you up for long term success after school.
If you weren’t an engineer, what would you be?
I would have done a major in History.
What beverage do you drink to start your day?
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
One of your favorite hobbies?
