MARTINEZ—On your mark, get set, and run (or walk) for education! The 14th annual Shell/Martinez Education Foundation Run for Education will take place Sunday, Oct. 2, in downtown Martinez. The race will feature a 5K and 10K course along with our electronic chip timing system and the opportunity to pick up your race number and T-shirt prior to race day.
“The Run for Education gets better every year, and we are looking forward to an even greater event this year,” said Ann Notarangelo, Public Affairs Manager for the Shell Martinez Refinery. “Coming from a family of teachers, I know the challenges our educators face to create the classroom experience they want for their students. Last year’s Run for Education was enormously successful, and all of us at Shell Martinez Refinery are delighted to see the money raised go to teachers and their students.”
The Run is the major fundraiser for the Martinez Education Foundation (MEF) to benefit the Martinez Unified School District schools. All proceeds from entry fees, sponsorships and the Oct. 1 Family Fun Night go to Martinez teachers in the form of grants awarded to enhance classroom teaching, particularly in the area of technology. The Run is also the signature community project of the Shell Martinez Refinery, which provides financial and logistical support, staffing and volunteers. In addition to playing the lead role in underwriting the event, Shell will match the first $20,000 in registration and sponsorships.
