The Shell Geismar Chemical Plant, located on the Mississippi River some 20 miles south of Baton Rouge, began operations in 1967. Approximately 600 Shell employees staff the Geismar Site. A workforce of process technicians, maintenance craftspeople, engineers, chemists, quality assurance technicians and safety, environmental, business and human resources professionals support site operations. In addition, approximately 442 contract employees routinely support the facility.
The Shell Geismar manufacturing site began operation in 1967. Over its 55-year history, the site has undergone several major expansions.
Products made at Shell Geismar are used by customers to produce a variety of industrial and consumer products.
The Geismar Plant ships products to customers throughout the U.S. and several foreign countries.
More than environmental permits or government-granted sanctions, the people of the community grant us our license to operate every day.
