Jimmy and I took over Toby and Eva Mendoza, who have done this for 25 years. And Toby is retiring tomorrow, so we’ve taken over as the Shell reps partnering with Today’s Harbor for Children, to put on a tournament, to raise funds for them.

It’s important. You know, this is community, putting people first.
Miscellaneous footage of golfers teeing off on the fairway and putting on putting greens.
[Jimmy Love]
And we’re out here raising money. The history of this tournament – you know, it’s been going for 36 years and we keep growing and growing and growing and doing great things for the Harbor. And it boils down to that’s what we do. We’re one of the biggest sponsors and supporters of the Today’s Harbor, and that is a pretty cool thing to be a part of.

Interview with Barry Klein

General Manager, Shell Deer Park
[Barry Klein]
What the Harbor does is they take in kids that are in need, and they put them together with parents that actually live on the campus, in homes.

This cuts to another screen shot of Today’s Harbor for Children’s “Tug for Life” “Placement” webpage, the text explaining how the program works.
[Barry Klein]
Give them education, teach them skills, help them get through some really tough times. And so without the Harbor, you’d have a lot of kids out there really lost in the community and really searching for help. And so they do a wonderful job. The work we do at the Harbor is all volunteer.

And the budget, when you think about it – the event we have here raises close to 12%, 14% of the annual budget – so being part of the executive board, you really start to understand the needs that are out there and just how important an event like this really is.

Interview with Don Sweat
[Title]
President & CEO, Today’s Harbor for Children
[Don Sweat]
Today, we’re fortunate. We have over 430 players on three courses. And because of this, we raise usually over $100,000 that goes toward general operating expenses. And we thank Shell Deer Park for all that they do, because they also send volunteers during the year to come and do landscaping, paint, etc. So they’ve been very great, very good to us. They’re just great.

Interview with Amanda Caylor
[Title]
Director of Communications, Today’s Harbor for Children
[Amanda Caylor]
So what makes us so unique is that this residential program really instills in these kids what a home life, a real home life is like. So they have the house parents, they have chores that they have to do, they have homework at the end of the day. What we like to tell people is we are giving these kids back the ordinary – an ordinary that maybe they didn’t have perhaps.

[Toby Mendoza]
We actually started in 1992, said, you know what, let’s do this and let’s do this big time, let’s kick it in gear and let’s try to raise as much money as we can for the kids. When we visited the campus, we understood what it was about then. It’s been a good journey, it really has. Of course, with our generous sponsors, we’ve donated over $2 million since they’ve become our primary beneficiary, so feel real good about that, real proud about that.

And it’s a community service, in a sense.
[Toby Mendoza]
Sure.
[Eva Mendoza]
A local service. So Shell is very proud of helping the community around them.
[Toby Mendoza]
Yes. It’s real good – a real good thing.
