Despite the rainy weather, this year’s Shell Deer Park Strides for Schools 5K Fun Run – which benefits the Deer Park Education Foundation – featured a record number of 2,333 participants.In an Inside DP article, reporter Bobby Vasquez notes that this marks the seventh year for the Strides for Schools fun run. Shell Deer Park established the run to celebrate the refinery’s 80th anniversary.

The Foundation raised $36,450 in registration fees and t-shirt sales, which Shell Deer Park will match. Event sponsors raised more than $100,000. Shell Deer Park underwrites the fun run and matches the participants’ registration fees. Those contributions ensure that all of the money raised goes back to the Deer Park Education Foundation.
