At Shell, we believe our people are the foundation for our success and we are committed to developing leadership attributes in all employees. As an extension of this value, we sponsor students to attend the Louisiana Youth Seminar (LYS), a week-long summer leadership camp for high school students from around the country that takes place every year at Louisiana State University. For 2018, Shell Deer Park is looking to sponsor four local students. Read below to learn how to apply.

LYS is a week-long camp for high school junior and senior students looking to develop their leadership abilities. Its mission is to take the leadership skills in every individual and help students to recognize their own strengths, while also realizing others’ strengths that may be different from their own. Each day, students build upon their skills through a series of hands on experiences, with the intent to use them day-to-day in their own schools and communities.

Interested in attending LYS? Would you like Shell Deer Park to sponsor you?

As a reflection of our commitment to leadership development at site, Shell Deer Park is looking to sponsor four students from our local community to the 2018 Louisiana Youth Seminar (LYS) taking place July 15-20, 2018. We will consider students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year that live in our local area (Deer Park, Pasadena or La Porte) and are interested in developing their leadership skills.

If selected through the application process, Shell Deer Park will sponsor the student for the full value of the camp. If you are interested in being sponsored to attend this leadership camp, please download and submit the parental consent form, and fill out the application below by April 2.

About LYS

LYS was founded in 1971 on the belief that if businesses, communities and government are to have effective leaders in the future, LYS must help students to develop their core leadership skills such as effective communication, setting and achieving goals, teambuilding, understanding and accepting others, developing self-confidence, conducting effective meetings and problem-solving skills.

Over the past 47 years, over 10,000 high school students have been positively impacted by their week-long leadership experience at LYS.
