In our pursuit to inspire more students to pursue STEM careers, Shell has developed a new initiative with our partners at the National Science Teachers Association that we hope will improve science experiences for K-12 students in schools near our assets.

The Shell Science Lab Regional Challenge will award prize packages to one elementary, one middle and one high school near each Shell asset with resources to improve science instruction, and provide their science teachers with professional development to improve knowledge content and instructional methods.

  • Elementary Schools - $10,000 Value Prize Package

$5,000 Smithsonian Science Curriculum, Materials, Consumables, and science supplies, and $5,000 value in Professional Development (airfare, hotel and registration expenses to regional NSTA STEM Forum)

  • Middle Schools - $10,000 Value Prize Package

$5,000 Smithsonian Science Curriculum, Materials, Consumables, and science supplies, and $5,000 value in Professional Development (airfare, hotel and registration expenses to regional NSTA STEM Forum)

  • High Schools - $15,000 Value Prize Package

$10,000 in biology or chemistry science lab equipment from Carolina Biological Supply Company and $5,000 value in Professional Development (airfare, hotel and registration expenses) to regional NSAT STEM Forum)

The competition will be among other schools near the Shell Deer Park in the Deer Park, La Porte and Pasadena ISDs. Awards will be determined based on need – how schools are already delivering innovative experiences with little or no resources, and how science experiences for students would improve with additional resources. Visit the Shell Science Lab Regional Challenge to learn more about this exciting opportunity for your school, your science teachers and your students before the application deadline of February 4, 2019. A web seminar hosted by NSTA will be held on January 23, 2019, and accessible for later review on their website to interested science teachers who want to better understand the instructions and process for submitting a successful application.
