This year’s Strides for Schools Fun Run attracted an unprecedented number of race participants and sponsors – breaking last year’s fundraising record for the Deer Park Education Foundation. More than 1,700 runners and walkers signed up for this all-community fundraiser to raise money in support of the hard-working teachers and students of Deer Park.
Shell Deer Park has been the proud presenting sponsor of this event since its inception in 2010. The event has grown significantly in a short period of time and is one of the area’s most popular education fundraisers that draws runners, walkers, kids, families and local companies to participate in a morning of competition, exercise and outdoor fun.
"This year, the generosity of our sponsors will make this the largest fundraiser in the history of our Foundation,” said Sheri Brown, coordinator of the Deer Park Education Foundation.
“The planning committee worked tirelessly to make the run a huge success. We really appreciate their support and are excited about how these proceeds will help us impact our teachers and students through our Enrichment Grants. We want to thank all who participated, volunteered and sponsored this wonderful event, and we want to offer a very special thank you to Shell for helping us brighten the future of our students."
One of the attractions of this year’s event was the Shell-sponsored Trailblazer II, a 40-foot trailer described as an interactive science and engineering museum on wheels. Shell employees and students from Deer Park High School volunteered as the Trailblazer’s “docents” and demonstrated exhibits to over 200 visitors about fundamental concepts in science and engineering.
