Environmental Excellence
The high level of maintenance and expansion activities underway at both the Shell Deer Park Chemical Plant and Shell Deer Park Refining Company underscores our strategy of minimizing the impact of Shell operations on the environment, in conjunction with health and safety excellence.
Shell Deer Park process units and other equipment are designed, built, operated and maintained to be clean, safe and acceptable to the community. Shell continues to invest in new technology, implement better operating procedures, and strengthen its training programs to improve environmental performance.
The chemical plant and refinery work diligently to ensure that the environmental “footprint” of their operations is minimal. We believe that success in today’s terms requires being a responsible corporate citizen whose presence enhances the overall well-being and quality of life of the community.
Refinery Scrubber Project
The refinery installed a $20 million scrubber system that removes 90-98 percentof air pollutants from a major processing unit. The pollutants are recycled or treated on-site, while the rest of the water evaporates as a cloud of steam.
Safety Flares
A safety flare is designed to prevent the release of harmful emissions into our plant and the environment. The safety flare has a pilot light that ignites automatically, so any chemicals routed to the flare are safely incinerated.
