Request for a Grant from Shell

Shell makes monetary grants to nonprofit organizations within the U.S.  Priority consideration will be given to organizations in or near communities where Shell Oil Company or its affiliates in the United States have a major presence. Nonprofit organizations are encouraged to submit proposals if they meet our general eligibility criteria and contribution guidelines.

Shell Oil Company and the Shell Oil Company Foundation will consider charitable contributions to eligible nonprofit organizations for select programs that fall within our focused areas of contributions:

Environment

As part of our commitment to environmental stewardship, we support projects that restore and protect critical ecosystems, particularly in areas where Shell Oil Company and its affiliates in the U.S. have a major presence. In addition to restoration and preservation efforts, we fund research projects for threatened wildlife and/or habitats.

Workforce Development / Education
We support K-12 programs that boost math and science skills, as well as university programs that aid engineering and geoscientist students and their departments. Shell funds projects at vocational and technical schools where chemical and refinery operators and technicians are trained. We are especially interested in supporting educational outreach in math, science and technology to minority students and academic institutions with ethnically diverse enrollments.

Community Outreach
We fund a broad array of community outreach projects, particularly in areas where our employees work and live. These projects range from small, local neighborhood improvement efforts, to large donations and fundraising events for regional non-profit organizations. We are especially interested in supporting groups that reflect the diversity and inclusiveness of our communities, which is a Shell core value.

Health and Welfare

The health and welfare of Shell employees is of high importance to us, as is the well-being of our neighbors. We are committed to supporting efforts that advance health outreach programs in local communities as well as those that improve the welfare of our neighbors and employees.

Shell Oil Company and the Shell Oil Company Foundation support a wide range of charitable organizations that are tax-exempt in the United States, under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Shell Oil Company and the Shell Oil Company Foundation will not consider contributions for the following purposes:

  • Individuals
  • Private Foundations
  • Non-profit organizations without a current 501(c)(3) exempt status
  • Conferences or symposia
  • Endowment funds
  • Fraternal and labor organizations
  • Capital campaigns
  • Conferences, workshops, or seminars not directly related to Shell business interests
  • Religious organizations that do not serve the general public on a non-denominational basis
  • Organizations located in or benefiting nations other than U.S. and its territories
  • Organizational operating expenses

Unsolicited proposals are reviewed on a regular basis. We regret that, due to the overwhelming volume of requests that we receive, we are not able to fund every proposal.

If your request falls within our focused areas of contribution and you meet our eligibility requirements, please submit your proposal via our online grant application. You will be asked to complete an eligibility quiz before you begin the application process. Your application should include a brief statement describing the mission of your organization, amount requested (including budget information for the specific project), the purpose of the contribution and a brief explanation of how the request meets our guidelines. If your request is granted, please be prepared to submit an IRS statement that validates your organizations 501(c)3 tax status.
