What is Energy Security

What Is Energy Security

Energy Security is one of those things we tend to take for granted. We need gas for the car – we pull up to a gas station and we pump the gas or have it pumped for us; it’s always there. We go to the light switch and turn it on. The lights work. We go to the thermostat - we turn it up or we turn it down - we’re comfortable. It’s very personal.

But somewhere between natural resource exploration and production and the light switch, there are important issues that we face in terms of whether that energy will always be there. And if it’s there, is it affordable? Affordable not only to those who are of means, but affordable to those who don’t have means but nonetheless need energy to live. Consumers, family leaders and parents want energy security, not only for themselves, but also for their children.

It is very important in this time in America’s experience with energy that we have more dialogue; that we try to build greater understanding of the challenges that we all face because those challenges are not going away, they’re not getting easier, they are not going to be solved in ways that will satisfy either ourselves or future generations if we don’t discuss the very difficult issues we face in the energy arena.
