America’s Energy Coast

Launched by the America’s WETLAND Foundation, America’s Energy Coast educates the public on the necessary coexistence of energy and ecology.

The states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama have joined together as “America’s Energy Coast” to support coastal communities and their unique cultures.

Launched by the America’s WETLAND Foundation, America’s Energy Coast is a unique initiative that brings together leaders from academia, industry, conservation, government, and non-profit agencies to help educate America, shape public policy, and speak with a shared voice in Washington regarding the necessary co-existence of energy and ecology to sustain “America’s Energy Coast.”

Host to almost 90% of America’s offshore oil and gas supply and a third of all oil and gas consumed in this country, the region is connected to 50% of the nation’s refining capacity.  It is home to the largest port system by tonnage in the world, with ports and navigation channels and facilities throughout the four-state region moving the bulk of America’s waterborne commerce.

The region also provides habitat for dozens of endangered and threatened species and millions of migratory waterfowl and songbirds, produces more than a third of the fish caught in the lower 48 states, and its coastal wetlands serve as nursery ground for marine life in the entire Gulf of Mexico.

Shell proudly serves on the America’s Energy Coast Industry Council along with other organizations committed to a balanced dialogue and common solutions to work toward energy and environmental sustainability.
