Background
Marvin E. Odum became Director of the Upstream Americas business (which is currently under formation) with effect from July 1, 2009. He continues as President of Shell Oil Company (SOC).
Prior to his new appointment and in addition to his role as SOC President, he was Executive Vice President for the Americas for Shell Exploration & Production. He was named SOC President in 2008 and had served as Executive Vice President since 2005, with responsibility for Shell exploration and production businesses in the western hemisphere.
Marvin became Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Athabasca Oil Sands Project on July 1, 2009. He sits on the board of directors of the American Petroleum Institute (API) and on its Executive Committee. He is a commissioner of The Aspen Institute Dialogue and Commission on Arctic Climate Change and a member of the Steering Committee for the Energy, Security, Innovation & Sustainability Initiative of The Council On Competitiveness.
He also serves on the board of trustees of the National Urban League. He is a member of the Business Roundtable, the Dean’s Council of the Harvard Kennedy School, the University of Texas College of Engineering Advisory Board and the board of directors of the Council of the Americas.
Marvin secured a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Houston.
Personal
Marvin, a US citizen, was born in 1958. He is married to Mariloli, and they have three children.
