Twenty-Time Champion Finishes Four on Second Night of Racing
The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returned to Lawrenceburg Speedway in Indiana this past weekend for the first time since the 2006 season. After two nights of racing, Steve Kinser and the Quaker State team came out of the 3/8-mile oval with mixed results.
The Quaker State driver finished 24th during the first night of racing after suffering from mechanical problems while returning to typical fashion on the second night to finish fourth.
Kinser kicked off the weekend with a sixth-place qualifying run on Friday night. He followed that up with a strong showing in his heat race taking the runner-up spot. A seventh-place finish in the Crane Cams Dash earned the 20-time Champion a solid starting spot in the 35-lap A-main.
One the green flag waved for the 35-lap feature event trouble began to plague the Bloomington, Indiana native. After pulling into the work area to change ignition boxes, the Quaker State team still could not get the car to fire and had to pull off the track. Kinser was credited with the 24th and final position for the evening.
The second evening of racing proved to be more successful for Kinser. After qualifying third the Quaker State driver went on to score another second-place finish in his heat race. A seventh-place finish in the Crane Cams Dash put the Indiana native in the fourth row for the start of the 35-lap A-main. Kinser fell back to the 12th spot on the third lap of the feature but recovered to take the checkered flag in the fourth position.
Kinser remains second in the series championship point standings while leading the series with 21 top-10 finishes of which 14 are top-fives.
Next up for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series is a double-header at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kansas beginning Friday, June 12 with a final night of racing on Saturday, June 13.
