Quaker State Driver Scores a Top-10 and Top-Five Finish in Two Nights of Racing
The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series continued their busy schedule of racing with two events this past weekend. After racing on the East Coast a week ago, the series moved back to the Midwest with visits to Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio on Friday night and I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan on Saturday.
Kicking off the weekend was a night full of racing action at the 1/3-mile high-banked oval of Attica Raceway Park. Kinser, with four victories at the track, was looking for his second victory of the season as he took to the high-banked Ohio bullring.
After a slow start to the evening with a 36th-place qualifying effort, the Quaker State driver earned a fourth-place finish in his heat race. Starting the A-feature from deep in the field, Kinser came from the back to finish 10th in the Quaker State Maxim adding to his series-best record of 19 top-10 finishes.
Following Friday's event the series moved on to Lake Odessa, Michigan to take on the half-mile oval of I-96 Speedway. Kinser was the defending winner at the track where he set a new track record in time trials, finished second in his heat race, won the Crane Cams Dash and led all but one lap in the main event one year ago.
Looking for a repeat of last year Kinser started the night off with a strong qualifying run placing his Quaker State Maxim in the third spot during time trials. A second-place finish in his heat race put the 20-time World of Outlaws champion in the Crane Cams Dash where he finished seventh.
After lining up seventh for the 30-lap A-main Kinser used a strong start to gain a couple of positions on the opening lap. Late in the race the Bloomington, Indiana native was able to snag the runner-up spot on a restart before taking the checkered flag.
With his strong weekend, Kinser moved to within 14 points of the lead in the series championship standings as he pursues his record 21st championship title.
The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to action next weekend for two nights of racing at Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Racing action begins on Friday, June 5 with a second event on Saturday June, 6.
