Twenty-Time World of Outlaws Champion Takes over Points Lead after Victory at Tr-State Speedway
The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series continued its string of visits to the high-banked bullrings with stops at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Arkansas and Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana this past weekend.
Steve Kinser, who had two career wins at Riverside and seven at Tri-State Speedway with the series, entered the weekend second in points and looking for his first win of the 2009 season.
Kinser qualified 10th quickest the high-banked ¼-mile Riverside International Speedway and followed that up with another heat-race win. A ninth-place run in the Crane Cams Dash earned the Bloomington, Indiana native a top-10 starting position in the A-main. After 40 laps of racing action, Kinser brought the No. 11 Quaker State Maxim home to an eighth-place finish.
The series then moved on to Tri-State Speedway for Saturday night's event. The last time Kinser won at the high-banked ¼-mile track was back in 2007. After starting from the pole with a Crane Cams Dash win, Kinser returned to Victory Lane after winning Saturday Night's race at the track.
The Quaker State driver fell back to the fourth position just after the green flag waved but moved back into the third position before regaining the runner-up spot. Kinser wound up leading just three laps in the feature but was at the point when the checkered flag fell.
Kinser took over the points lead with his victory and earned his 551st World of Outlaws career win.
Next up for the World of Outlaws Series is a stop at Huset's Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota on May 1, 2009 followed by some racing action at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa on Saturday, May 2, 2009.
