Kinser at Thunderbowl

23/03/2009

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series visited Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, California this past weekend for two nights of action-packed racing at the high-banked 1/3-mile bullring.

Steve Kinser racing in Tulare, California.

Going into this weekend’s events, Kinser had 11 top-10 finishes in 12 career starts at the track.  Included in those stats are three wins for the 20-time champion of which the most recent victory was in 2006.

The Bloomsburg, Indiana native struggled on the first night of competition beginning with his qualifying run. Kinser took his laps in the Quaker State Maxim only posting the 26th quickest time.  The Quaker State driver followed that qualifying run up with a sixth-place finish in his heat race.

After starting the A-main in the 25th position, Kinser moved up nine spots in 35 laps of competition to take the checkered flag in the 16th position.  His 16th-place finish marked the first time of the 2009 season that the “King of Outlaws” finished outside of the top-10.

During Saturday night’s events, Kinser fared better than on the opening night. This time the Indiana native was able to earn a top-five qualifying run putting his No. 11 Quaker State Maxim in the fourth quickest spot. He followed his qualifying run up with a strong showing in his heat race by finishing second and advancing to the Crane Cams Dash where he finished seventh.

After starting seventh Kinser was able to hang on to a top-10 position and finish the 35-lap race in the ninth position earning his seventh top-10 finish in just eight starts.

The World of Outlaws return to action on Saturday, March 28 at the legendary half-mile track of Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Arizona.
