The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series kicked off the 2009 season at Volusia Speedway Park with the 38th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH on Friday, February 6th.

Steve Kinser returned to the semi-banked half-mile oval in his No. 11 Quaker State Maxim hoping to kick his season off in a strong manner.

Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion, has four career wins at the track and was victorious for the first time at Volusia Speedway Park in 1984. He won for the last time in World of Outlaws action at the track in 2005. He finished third or better in each of his first 10 starts at the track between 1979 and 2005.

"That is one of the toughest fields you'll probably have all year," admitted Kinser. "Everyone is down there with fresh motors, ready to run. If you get started off good there, it's a plus for the whole season."

Kinser qualified with a strong fourth-place run in the opening night of action.  He followed that up with a third-place finish in his heat race transferring the Bloomington, Indiana native into the A-feature.  The Quaker State driver took the checkered flag in the sixth position after 30 laps of intense racing action in the feature.

The following evening, the Indiana native kept up his strong showing qualifying fourth in time trials.  A top-five finish in his heat race once again transferred the 20-time World of Outlaws champion to the A-feature where he finished sixth for the second night in a row.

In the final night of racing action, Kinser charged all the way from the back of the field to score his first top-five finish of the season finishing fifth in the feature.  The Quaker State team elected to start at the tail of the field after they believed there was a problem with the engine.  On his way to his top-five finish Kinser put the Quaker State Maxim in the fifth position during qualifying and followed that up with a third place finish in his heat race.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to action on February 26 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada.
