Pennzoil and RCR Technical Program

Pennzoil and RCR Technical Program

Pennzoil and Richard Childress Racing Technical Program Designed to Pay Dividends on the Race Track

When Pennzoil and Shell began a multi-year agreement in 2007 with Richard Childress Racing (RCR) as the primary sponsor of the No. 29 Chevrolet driven by Kevin Harvick, an important technical support program between Pennzoil and RCR began as well.

Pennzoil racing oil is in every NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series engine that takes to the track in 2010 for RCR. This motor oil contains some of the same technology found in Pennzoil Platinum® full synthetic motor oil which helps keep passenger vehicle engines running clean and responsive.

With Pennzoil racing oil in their engines the team, doesn’t see any parts discoloration or deposits after a race. The engines look the same before and after a race and put out the same horsepower numbers as they did from the start.

“We work closely with Pennzoil engineers to develop motor oil formulations to help maximize performance and engine reliability for the team,” said Danny Lawrence, assistant chief engine builder for RCR. “Pennzoil has helped us solve performance issues on the track. Having Pennzoil Platinum motor oil technology in all of our race cars is a great competitive benefit.”

On the road, the superior active cleansing agents1 in Pennzoil Platinum® full synthetic motor oil not only help prevent sludge, but also clean out up to 46 percent of built-up sludge in the first oil change, which is on average three times better than the leading conventional motor oil. They actively seek out and neutralize dirt and contaminants in motor oil before they can form harmful deposits; they also attack and help clean up sludge deposits that are already there.

While every sponsor looks for brand recognition through their sponsorships of NASCAR race teams, Pennzoil is seeking something more: technology and testing in a harsh racing environment that can be used to improve the motor oil that consumers put in their vehicles.
