Quaker State Driver Ends Up Sixth in Final Championship Standings

NHRA

The NHRA Funny Car Series completed their 2009 season this weekend with the running of the 45th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals. Quaker State driver Tony Pedregon entered the final event fourth in the championship point standings however Pedregon took a first-round loss in the eliminations ending his day early.

Racing action began on Thursday with qualifying rounds that lasted through Saturday. The Quaker State driver struggled a little in his first pass losing traction around the 800-foot mark. In his second run, Pedregon improved his position during Friday’s qualifying session turning in a nice pass.

Saturday’s rounds saw Pedregon have mixed results with him putting the Quaker State Impala in the 13th overall spot for Sunday’s elimination rounds.

The Quaker State team had hoped to cap off the season with a solid performance however the cards were not in their favor.  Facing off against Matt Hagan in the first elimination round, Pedregon found himself in a close race to the 660-foot mark before his pipes went wet causing him to take the loss and ending his day early.

Pedregon turned in another solid season leading the championship point standings for many weeks before settling for the sixth position in the end.
