Pedregon Makes It Two In A Row

14/06/2009

Quaker State Driver Takes over Points Lead after Old Bridge Township Raceway Park Win

Penregon wins again

Coming off a dominating weekend last week in Chicago, Tony Pedregon and the Quaker State team arrived at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park for the United Association NHRA SuperNationals with hopes of continuing the momentum from their first win of the 2009 season.

With qualifying rounds beginning on Friday, Pedregon was set to go in the last pair and was up in smoke around the half track mark in his run. However in his second pass, the Quaker State driver launched hard and kept the car hooked up moving himself up further on the time sheet. When the day was done Pedregon found himself in the third overall position going into Saturday's qualifying session.

The Brownsburg, Indiana native had a real good pass in the third and final round but was unable to improve his position remaining in the third qualifying spot as he prepared for Sunday's elimination rounds.

Paired with Cory Lee in the first round of eliminations, the Quaker State driver ended up with a single run after Lee had to shut it down before the start of the race giving Pedregon the win. Facing off against Del Worsham in round two, Pedregon was the first out of the gate and stayed in front for the entire pass for the win. Next up for the two-time champion was a run against Tim Wilkerson in the semi-final. Again with the quicker start, the Indiana native was able to stay out front the whole way down the track making his way into the final round for the second week in a row.

There was a lot at stake going into the final round with the winner of the race leaving with the Funny Car points lead. Pedregon got out of the gate first and extended his lead at the 330-foot mark. His Quaker State Impala started to move around and get a little loose but Pedregon was able to hold on to the lead and take the win for the second time in as many weeks.

With his victory, the Quaker State driver took over the point lead as he pursues his third career championship.

After three straight weeks of racing the NHRA Funny Car series will take a weekend off before heading to Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio on June 25-28 for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals.
