Ryan Gifford

Ryan Gifford drove his No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet Impala SS to a second-place finish in the Dover 150 at Dover International Speedway on Friday afternoon. It was his second runner-up finish in his sixth career NASCAR Camping World Series East race.

The Richard Childress Racing developmental driver started 14th for the 150-lap event and charged his way through the 28-car field, cracking the top 10 on lap 27.

As Gifford continued his march towards the front, a caution on lap 47 brought the leaders to pit road. After the Wayne Orme-led crew added fuel one lap later, the No. 29 returned to the racing surface seventh.

Racing resumed on lap 51 and Gifford's Impala SS was posting the fastest-lap times on the one-mile concrete oval, racing his way into third before another caution slowed the field on lap 80. Following a lighting-fast right-side pit stop, Gifford took the lead.

The Winchester, Tenn.,-native led the field for a total of 33 laps before getting passed by eventual race winner Brett Moffitt with 33 laps remaining. Gifford tried to reel in Moffitt with 10 laps to go, but fell short of earning his first stock car victory.

Moffitt won the final race of the 2009 NCWSE season, Gifford finished second and Ryan Truex took home the series championship. Corey LaJoie, David Mayhew and Alan Tardiff rounded out the top-five finishers.

Ryan Gifford Quote:

"We had an awesome day. I'm really proud of the Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet team. Wayne (Orme-crew chief) and all the guys back the shop prepared a fast Impala SS and although we didn't have a strong qualifying effort, our No. 29 was fast during the race. It was exciting to race our way towards the front and battle for the win with Ryan (Moffitt). Racing in this series is a lot of fun. Hopefully, we can run more races at this level next year. I'm almost speechless being here. Three years ago I never would have saw myself in this position. I was dirt-track racing back home and now I'm competing at Dover for a win. This really is a dream come true for me."
