Shell Driver Spends Weekend Preparing for Asphalt Late Model Race

Ryan Gifford and his Team Dillon Racing team returned to action this past weekend at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina for his first Super Late Model race.

Starting in the 11th position the Shell driver scored an impressive top-10 finish while competing against some of the division’s top names and veterans. 

The Shell driver started the weekend off with a test session at Caraway Speedway preparing for his first asphalt late model race in April before meeting up with his team at Cherokee for Sunday’s event in a Super Late Model.  Gifford competed in the Crate Late Model division throughout the 2008 season where the motors are smaller than in the Super Late Model division.

Racing action began with qualifying where 28 cars were vying for the 24 starting spots.  Gifford earned himself a respectable 11th-place starting position after making his qualifying run.

As the green flag waved for the 60-lap feature, Gifford settled in for a night full of racing action. Gifford dropped to the 13th position in the opening laps before racing his way into the top-10 where he finished 10th for the night.
