Angus Subsea Development

The Angus Joint Participating Area consists of six blocks - Green Canyon 111, 112, 113, 155, 156, and 157 - located in the Gulf of Mexico about 150 miles southwest of New Orleans in approximately 2,000 feet of water. Fields currently included in this area include Stellaria - blocks 111 and 112, Angus - blocks 113 and 157, and Manatee - blocks 155 and 156.

The six leases were acquired in OCS Lease Sale 152, held in 1995, and Lease Sale 157, held in 1996.

Shell Offshore Inc. (SOI) is the operator of the six blocks with a 51% interest in the area, and Devon has a 49% interest in the area. The discovery well was drilled in Green Canyon 112 using the Ocean Concord. The reserves are in the Plio-Pleistocene sands, at a depth of approximately 15,000 feet. The average net thickness is approximately 100 feet.

The average API gravity of the crude is 29 degrees.

Development Plans

Shell announced in March 1998 that the working interest owners were discussing a plan to develop the six block area utilizing a common subsea system tied back 12 miles to Shell's Bullwinkle fixed platform on Green Canyon Block 65 in 1,350 feet of water.

The subsea system consists of three wells connected to an adjacent 8-slot manifold and tied back to the Bullwinkle platform via two 8-inch buried, multiphase flowlines configured in a piggable loop. The subsea manifold is located on Green Canyon Block 113. Initial development will target reserves in Green Canyon Blocks 112 and 113. Subsequent phases of the project will tie back the additional fields within the 6-block area.
