Diversity

Diversity means "all the ways we are different" such as gender, race, lifestyle, experience, age, culture, marital status, caregiver, religion, origin and educational background.  We are all diverse and bring a unique perspective to Shell Deer Park.

Becoming a model of Diversity involves creating an inclusive work environment, establishing strong measurement and accountability system, and developing relationships with diverse suppliers, customers, and communities.

During the last several years, Shell Deer Park has taken steps to achieve progress in these and other diversity related areas.

We believe that one key to success is a strong commitment to Diversity, so we are committed to creating an inclusive culture where:

  • Employees have the opportunity to reach their full potential;
  • Creativity and contributions are valued;
  • Respecting each individual's diversity will create a workplace that is perceived as fair and enjoyable; and
  • Business results are sustainably improved

Shell Deer Park is committed to serving and providing opportunities for the diverse groups living and doing business in the communities where we operate.  We enjoy a unique diversity advantage being a union-represented (United Steel Workers Local 13-1) site located near a cosmopolitan city in a diversified country.

Deer Park Diversity Council

The Council's overall purpose is to help create a work place environment that is fair, respectful, and enjoyable in a manner that will encourage employees to contribute to their fullest potential and ultimately lead to improved business performance.

Because this is a long-term process, the strategic focus is to engage the workforce, create awareness about diversity, and deliver diversity awareness training.  The Council is composed of a diverse group of individuals from a variety of functions and roles within the plant.  The members are from the hourly, staff (exempt and non-exempt), and management groups.
