Deimos Subsea Development

At a total vertical depth of 18,000 to 22,000 feet, the Deimos subsalt reservoirs are among the deepest in the Shell Gulf of Mexico producing assets.

Deimos

  • Deimos is located in Mississippi Canyon Blocks 762 and 806, in 3,000 feet of water.
  • Deimos is in the Mars Producing Unit, which is a Shell and BP partnership (71.5 percent and 28.5 percent working interests, respectively).
  • Deimos was discovered in September 2002, when Shell encountered 248 true vertical net feet oil in multiple sands of the exploratory section and 287 net feet oil in the known producing field pays.
  • Deimos achieved first production in 2007.
  • Deimos is a phased development; Phase I had a peak production capacity of 30 kboe/day. The first phase consisted of a three-well subsea system tied back to the Mars Tension Leg Platform.
  • Phase II of the Deimos development has been incorporated into the Mars B development. The Mars B development is comprised of a second Tension Leg Platform “Olympus TLP” to be located on prolific Mars Field, a subsea tie-back of the recent West Boreas/South Deimos discoveries and the addition of dedicated export infrastructure. First oil from the Mars B development is targeted in 2015.
