  • Gyrfalcon was discovered in 1997.
  • Gyrfalcon is located in Green Canyon Block 20, in 880 feet of water.  It is approximately 155 miles SW of New Orleans, LA.
  • Shell is 100% owner of Gyrfalcon.
  • Gyrfalcon ties back to the Shell Boxer facility, approximately three miles away.

Gyrfalcon is the world's first 15,000 psi subsea well.

  • The field was developed as a simple one-well tie-back with a single full-pressure rated flowline, a steel pipe jumper, direct hydraulic controls and continuous methanol injection.
  • The subsea well recorded a bottom hole pressure of 14,700 psig at a depth of 17,850 ft.  The design pressure at the tree level was calculated to be 12,200 psig.  Shell worked with its contractors to develop the world’s first 15k-psig subsea tree.

Gyrfalcon began production in 1999.
