Shell Lubricants receives top honor from world’s largest retailer

At a recent ceremony in Shanghai, China, Shell Lubricants was honored as one of the top International Suppliers of 2004 by Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer.

At a recent ceremony in Shanghai, China, Shell Lubricants was honored as one of the top International Suppliers of 2004 by Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer. Shell Lubricants won the award for excellent products, strong growth and its close co-operation with Wal-Mart to strengthen both brands.

The relationship between Shell Lubricants and Wal-Mart has grown over recent years: Wal-Mart began selling Pennzoil-Quaker State (PQS) products in the 1980s; however, with Shell’s acquisition of PQS in 2002, the transition to a global relationship with Shell lubricants companies has solidified this relationship, making Wal-Mart one of their largest customers.

Today, Shell Lubricants supplies Wal-Mart with engine oil, car care products and accessories worldwide.

“It is a tremendous honor,” says Jim McCormick, Manager of Shell Lubricants’ global relationship with Wal-Mart.  “Many companies strive to be a Wal-Mart Supplier of the Year because Wal-Mart has a rigorous selection process, and the award is taken seriously.”

The award strengthens Shell’s relationship with the retail giant and the two companies will collaborate to demonstrate these award-winning practices to other Wal-Mart Suppliers.

“We have worked with Wal-Mart in sales, marketing, category management and closer integration in the supply chain,” continues McCormick.  “In particular, our teams in the U.S. and Hong Kong deserve credit for the direct import program developed for Auto Expressions car accessories between Asia and North America.  We will continue to work with Wal-Mart to leverage the benefits of importing directly from Asia into the United States using streamlined logistics.”
