Shell Nominated for Greater Houston Partnership's 'Houston's Greatest'

Shell has been nominated along with 11 other Houston companies.

For over 50 years, Shell has contributed more than $480 million to support community health and welfare, arts and cultural activities and various educational initiatives, including minority education and diversity and inclusiveness programs in Houston and the US.
 
A Greater Houston Partnership member since 1927, Shell is one of Houston's largest employers with more than 13,000 employees in the Greater Houston metropolitan area.

The Greater Houston Partnership plans to honor Houston's Greatest in November by celebrating leadership and outstanding business contributions to the community. Shell is one of 12 companies that have been nominated for this honor, which will be decided by public vote. Shell’s notable contributions, recognition and activities include:
 

  • Over $87.7 million contributed since 1988 to the United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast, ranked second in contributions with more than $5 million during 2003-04 campaign
     
  • More than $33.4 million generated for local charities since 1992 through the Shell Houston Open
     
  • $3.5 million endowment to the Shell Center for Sustainability at Rice University whose 2004 work includes the Houston area air pollution and water supply challenges
     
  • More than 31,000 hours for company-sponsored volunteer initiatives in 2004
     
  • Houston Food Bank's Albrecht Award for 2004 Corporate Volunteer Group of the Year
     
  • 2004 recipient of Houston Minority Business Council's Corporate Commitment Award
     
  • 2004 recognition as a Diversity Inc. Top 50 Company for Supplier Diversity
     
  • 2004 Houston Area Urban League Gerald Hines Corporate Award
     
  • A founding corporate member of the Houston Minority Business Council
     
  • Support for Alley Theatre, Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera, Houston Symphony and the Museum of Fine Arts - Houston
